According to Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), the owner of the collapsed 21-story building under construction in Ikoyi was given permission to erect only 15 stories.

Mr Oki told the NEWSZENITH over the telephone that the property’s owner had been arrested and it would face charges as a result of the accident.
“He received approval for a 15-story structure, exceeding his permitted height limit. “I’m on the ground here, and the materials he used are so poor and dreadful,” I say. The materials he utilized, particularly the reinforcing, are appalling. He was given permission to build 15 floors, but he ended up with 21.
Four people were rescued and three died, according to the GM, who added that rescue attempts were still ongoing.

“We’re still here, and four machines are up and running right now,” says the narrator.

A 21-story building collapsed in Ikoyi, Lagos State, trapping at least 50 persons in the wreckage.

At around 3 p.m. on Monday, the building at 20 Gerrard Road collapsed.

“I believe he has been restrained. He’s been arrested before,” he explained.
