To Commemorate Four Years Of Sobriety, She Shares a ‘Unrecognizable’ Photo.

This week, Jessica Simpson celebrated a significant and very personal milestone: her fourth year of sobriety.

The singer and fashion mogul marked the anniversary by posting a “unrecognizable” throwback photo of herself on social media.

Simpson noted that the photo depicted the “precise moment” in 2017 when she resolved to “take back my light, show victory over my internal fight of self-respect, and face this world with searing clarity.”

“I needed to stop drinking alcohol to do so because it kept my mind and heart spinning in the same direction and, quite frankly, I was fatigued,” she wrote. “I wanted to live like a leader does, breaking cycles to go forward and never thinking back with regret and sorrow about any decision I’ve made or will make for the rest of my life here in this wonderful earth.”
Simpson wrote later in the article that she couldn’t believe it had been four years since the photograph was taken, but that the apparent shortening of time was, in the end, “a good thing.”

“The real work in my life was accepting failure, pain, brokenness, and self-sabotage,” she wrote. “It wasn’t the drinking that was the problem. I was one of them. I didn’t like myself at all. I was unconcerned about my own authority. I’m doing it today.”

Simpson previously discussed the incident in her 2020 memoir, “Open Book,” as well as her choice to seek addiction treatment. She blamed much of her addiction on her attempts to “self-medicate” with alcohol and stimulants in response to sexual abuse she had experienced as a child.

She started drinking about 7 a.m. on Halloween morning in 2017, just before she and her husband, Eric Johnson, were scheduled to attend the school assembly for their daughter, Maxwell, she said. She was too drunk to go technique with her children by the time nighttime arrived, and she missed her own Halloween celebration. She remained in solitude for the majority of the next day.

“I’m embarrassed to admit that I have no idea who put them in their costumes that night,” she admitted. “I slept in because I was terrified to see them, concerned I had let them down.” I hid until they were gone and then drank.”
